Lunae was born in the Colli di Luni, the last strip of eastern Liguria, between the Apuan Alps and the Ligurian Sea. The history of these places is linked to Luni, an ancient port built in Roman times, where a wine of great quality was already being produced, as witnessed in the work “Naturalis Historia” by Pliny the Elder (65 A.D.). In this land in 1966 Paolo Bosoni, the fourth generation of a farming family, embarked on his own oenological journey, continuing the family tradition and creating Lunae. Its idea is to enhance the characteristics of the land, the peculiarities of its vines, excluding the use of herbicides in the vineyard and using only natural fertilisers. Today, Lunae cultivates 68 hectares of vines, 10 of which are organically farmed, and collaborates with 120 local vine growers who contribute their small production of grapes, keeping alive the unique qualities of our area. The vines cultivated are mostly indigenous, such as Vermentino and Albarola among the whites, Massareta and Pollera Nera among the reds.
Vermentino has become one of the most representative wines for the winery, demonstrating the great vocation of the territory and the value of the oenological journey made over the years by Paolo Bosoni, an enthusiastic interpreter of Lunigiana viticulture. Respect for their roots, and the rediscovery of their past, led the Bosoni family in 2004 to the creation of CA’ LVNAE, a centre for the appreciation and culture of wine, born in an ancient 18th century rural complex. It houses the ancient Essentiae liquor store, the museum of the material culture of wine, the wine shop, and tasting rooms. Ca’ Lunae is home to projects and activities related to hospitality, culture and the promotion of local food and wine.
